Right wing-back Ali Gibb was signed on deadline day on a free transfer from Stockport. Gibb made an immediate impact scoring in a 3-0 win against York City, and turning in a man-of-the-match performance. The midfielder began his career with Norwich City as a trainee, but failed to gain any first team action, he impressed during a loan spell at Northampton, and manager Ian Atkins chose to make the signing permanent at a cost of £30k, after 127 appearances in four years at the cobblers, and promotion to Division Two in 1997, Gibb was transferred to Stockport for £50k. Ali established himself as a regular at Edgeley Park, clocking up 165 games.
