Christian Edwards signed for Rovers’ in the summer of 2003, as Ray Graydon searched for a partner for Adam Barrett. Edwards began his career with hometown club Swansea, before a £275k move to Division One Nottingham Forest. It was during his spell at Forest that Edwards received his only Full Cap for Wales, but injuries and the emergence of youngsters like David Prutton and Michael Dawson pushed him down the pecking order.

Christian was loaned out to Bristol City, Oxford and Tranmere in the search of first team football, but it was at City he made the biggest impression. Although Edwards was seriously injured during the loan spell, Danny Wilson negotiated a first option on him when he regained fitness, during the Jim Brennan transfer deal. City never invoked the clause and Edwards joined the Gas on a free transfer. New manager Ian Atkins has singled out Edwards for praise and has placed him in the elite group of players who were retained in 2004.
