6. Steve Elliott

Former Derby County Defender Steve Elliott joined Rovers in the Summer of 2004. Elliott broke into the team at Premiership Derby forming a partnership with Chris Riggott, now of Middlesbrough. During this stage of his career he was capped on three occasions by the England Under 21 team and linked in a big-money joint move with Riggott to Liverpool.

Derby suffered relegation in 2002 and the likes of Riggott and Malcolm Christie left the club, leaving Derby with a fight to survive in Division One. Under new manager George Burley Steve gradually faded from the first team picture, and this resulted in a loan move, followed by a permanent deal to Blackpool. The sacking of Steve McMahon, who was the Central Defenders’ biggest fan, gave Ian Atkins the opportunity to bring Elliott to the Memorial Stadium on a three year deal.
