7. Stuart Campbell

Former Scotland Under 21 International Stuart Campbell was an Ian Atkins signing in Summer 2004. The midfielder began his career at Leicester City, where he was fortunate enough to taste Premiership football on no less than 37 occasions over five years. A loan move to Grimsby was turned permanent in May 2001, costing the Mariners £200k.

Campbell went on to become an important player in Grimsby’s side, favouring a central midfield birth, but also playing wide left. Campbell helped Grimsby to Division One survival in 2001/2, before the heartache of back-to-back relegations from Division One in his second season, and in 2003/4 from Division Two. Despite the misery Campbell remained a virtual ever-present and snubbed offers from higher league clubs to join the Gas.
