Junior Agogo was brought to Rovers by Ray Graydon in Summer 2003, in exchange for £110k and Giuliano Grazioli. The striker began his career with Sheffield Wednesday, where he made two substitute appearances in the Premiership, before loan spells at Oldham, Chester, Lincoln and Chesterfield. Agogo then made the move to the United States playing Major League Soccer for San Jose Earthquakes and Colorado Rapids.

QPR manager Ian Holloway gave Junior another chance in English football, however the Ghanaian only made two sub appearances. Barnet signed Junior for the 2002/3 season and he rewarded them with 19 goals in 39 games. It was then that Graydon swooped to sign Agogo beating off competition from the likes of Peterborough and Swindon. Junior suffered a terrible run in front of goal in his first season with the Gas, finding the net only three times in his first 31 games, but following the appointment of Osman and Broadhurst, Agogo managed some fantastic performances and fired three goals in seven games.
