"I probably could have earned more money but the manager [Paul Trollope] and his attitude made my mind up for me," said Campbell.

While Campbell is staying, long-serving defender Steve Elliott must look for another club.

Trollope is delighted Campbell is staying put.

"I'm very pleased as we've been negotiating for a while," said the manager.

"Stuart's recent performances have been very good and he's put himself in a strong position.

"He's given the club fantastic service over six years and he's integral to how we do things both on and off the field."

Trollope paid tribute to Elliott.

"Steve has given the club fantastic service over six years and played over 200 games for us which, in the modern game, is a fantastic achievement.

"I would like to thank him sincerely for his efforts, as he's played a major part in the club's recent progression from the bottom of League Two to the top half of League One.

"It has been, without doubt, one of the hardest decisions I've had to make in my time as manager or first team coach."
