The right-back has made two appearances for the Magpies since his move to Meadow Lane on February 23 and will now stay with the club until April 25.
Regan joined Rovers from MK Dons in the summer of 2009 and made his debut against Leyton Orient on the opening day of the 2009/10 season before going on to play a total of 66 times for the club.
The 30-year-old's contract at Rovers is up at the end of the season.
