Rovers were hampered by the absence of key trio Chris Lines, Danny Coles and Jo Kuffour at Priestfield and central defender Coles (knee) will definitely not feature against the Grecians.
Midfielder Lines (knee wound) and striker Kuffour (calf wound) returned to light training on Monday and have an outside chance of playing, but Saturday's home clash with Colchester is a more realistic target for both players.
On-loan midfielder Wayne Brown is ruled out as he is still receiving treatment on an ankle injury at parent club Fulham.
