Rovers chairman set to name new boss

The Pirates, whose relegation was all but confirmed following Saturday's 1-1 home draw with Sheffield Wednesday, have had two managers and two caretakers this season, with Paul Trollope and Dave Penney both departing the Memorial Stadium. Darren Patterson and latterly Stuart Campbell have taken temporary charge.

Higgs said: "We're looking to make an announcement in the next couple of weeks about the appointment of a new manager and the list of players that we will be retaining.

"There will have to be major changes as some of the recruitment over the last two years has not met the necessary standards.

"We know we have to act quickly to get things moving to make sure we are ready to hit the ground running in League Two next season."

Higgs added: "After a hugely disappointing season, we came close to avoiding the drop in the last three games and I'm at least pleased that we went down fighting in the end. I'd like to play tribute to all our supporters who've been fantastic all season."
