Rovers edge out Dale

Chris Lines struck with a rasping drive as Bristol Rovers secured a 2-1 victory against Rochdale. Jeff Hughes fired the Pirates ahead from the penalty spot in first half injury time after a foul by Marcus Holness on Jo Kuffour. Lines doubled their advantage when he found the roof of the net with a right-foot bullet, but Rovers had to endure a nervy finish after Byron Anthony deflected an 86th minute cross from Nicky Adams past his own goalkeeper. Rochdale could consider themselves unlucky after hitting the post twice through a first half header from Anthony Elding and an 80th minute effort from substitute Matt Done. Rovers striker Will Hoskins forced the best save of the game from Josh Lillis with a 73rd minute volley after cleverly controlling a Charlie Reece pass with his head. Rochdale attacked with menace, with Adams a threat on the right flank and Chris O'Grady a constant handful up front.
