Second choice Bristol Rovers goalkeeper Ryan Clarke has joined Southend United on a one-month loan deal.

Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson has signed Clarke and comedian Terry Alderton, who impressed in a recent match between Footballing Legends and Celebrities, to cover for suspended Darryl Flahavon and injured Bart Grimenk.

Rovers have negotiated an immediate recall clause in case of injury to number one goalkeeper Kevin Miller.

The stopper has made four first team starts for Rovers and one sub appearance since turning professional in 2000. The 22-year old has impressed in reserve games and is expected to be Kevin Miller's long term successor.

Meanwhile Rovers' youth team goalkeeper Martin Horsell has signed non-professional forms in case of an injury to Kevin Miller on a match day, although as Ian Atkins has never named a substitute keeper in his Rovers 16, he will not sit on the bench. Horsell has been handed the number 33 shirt.
