Yeovil held out with 10 men for the final 20 minutes to register a famous 1-0 victory at Bristol Rovers.

They had been comfortably in control after Nick Crittenden put them ahead just before half time but all this changed when substitute Jake Edwards was sent off.

He had been on for about 10 minutes when he retaliated after being kicked around the edge of the Rovers area and the referee Clive Penton reached straight for the red card.

Rovers with an off balanced attack failed to raise enough shots to cancel Crittenden's 25 yard shot which bent away from keeper Kevin Miller.

Miller got one hand to the ball but the one former Chelsea player deserved his first league goal.

The atmosphere for this West County derby was often too charged for the football to shine through but Yeovil's determined pace always caused problems for their opponents at the back.

With their suspect defending at set pieces Rovers saw Yeovil run up seven corners in the first half hour.

Miller was firm enough in goal although luck was with him when his own midfielder Dave Savage, put an attempted clearance on to his bar.

All eyes were on Kevin Gall, the striker Rovers gave away earlier in the year. He failed to impress playing wide with them but Yeovil saw him as a centre forward. It was a strong run in the from the right which so nearly brought him his season's ninth goal.

Cutting past Adam Barrett on his run he got full power behind a drive which Miller did well to beat down.

Rovers built well from the midfield where Savage quickly put his mistake behind him while Graham Hyde's aggression broke up many Yeovil attacks.

Yet it was Rovers who were made to look the more inexperienced in attack where Lewis Holding and Junior Agogo struggled with their fist touch.

Worse for 18-year-old Holding starting only his ninth game, he collected a fifth booking - a harsh one for a challenge on Gavin Williams - and will now miss a game over Christmas.

Before Edwards' dismissal Rovers were close to coming level with shots from Sonny Parker and Holding.

Their best chance though came near the end when Ijah Anderson delayed a clear shot at goal and saw it diverted for a useless corner.
