Dean Bennett scored his first league goal of the season to help ease Kidderminster Harriers' relegation worries.

The midfielder struck two minutes into the second half to earn his side a well-deserved win over injury-weakened Bristol Rovers.

Bennett's four other goals this term have been in the FA Cup, but he gleefully accepted the chance to open his league account by side-footing in a well-placed shot from 16 yards following a low cross from Graham Ward.

His well-taken effort enabled Kidderminster to clinch their second victory in three days while also gaining revenge for their 1-0 defeat at the Memorial Stadium in early September.

Jan Molby's men, who were forced to draft in Matthew Gadsby for injured right-back Lee Jenkins after 20 minutes, always looked the more threatening outfit and during the first half forced 11 corners compared to the Pirates two.

Indeed, Rovers were heavily indebted to keeper Kevin Miller in the 33rd minute when he pulled off a brilliant one-handed save to prevent John Williams from scoring with a fierce close-range volley.

Three minutes earlier brave Miller had foiled Williams by smothering the ball at the striker's feet after he had run on to a long throughball by defender Wayne Hatswell.

Rovers' main first-half scoring effort was a scuffed shot from Adam Barrett which was stopped on the line by keeper Stuart Brock who shortly before the interval was perfectly positioned to collect a volley from Ryan Williams.

Bennett's quick-fire strike in the second half gave Kidderminster a well-earned lead and left below-par Rovers to face an uphill battle.

Ray Graydon's men however rarely got in an on-target shot in the second period while Kidderminster frequently pushed forward without being able to add to their precious lead.
