Bristol Rovers looked as though they had grabbed a crucial point only for them to be robbed two minutes from time by Carlos Edwards' winner which keeps the home side in an automatic promotion place.

Substitute Lee Jones forced Scott Howie to push away his shot and it went to Edwards who made no mistake from a few yards out.

It was cruel on Rovers who had done enough to share the spoils coming back from two goals down to rock the home side.

Scott Green put Wrexham ahead in the 22nd minute and as the home side took over Lee Trundle twice hit the woodwork.

Three minutes before half time Adam Barrett fouled Brian Carey and Andy Morrell put the home side two goals clear from the penalty spot, his 30th league goal of the season.

Within a minute Rovers were back in the match when Chris Llewellyn, on loan from Norwich City, cut in from the left and fired past keeper Kristian Rogers.

Andy Rammell hit a half chance wide and although Wrexham missed several chances Llewellyn made no mistake in the 82nd minute when he slotted home the equaliser after substitute Lee Hodges’ shot had hit the post.

Rovers boss Ray Graydon said after the game: "We had a point on the board and then we threw it away.

“We were expecting a difficult game against a side set for automatic promotion but I was delighted how we fought back from two goals down.

“If we keep throwing points away like that we will end up in the Conference.” Wrexham boss Dennis Smith said: "It was one of our poorest performances but we showed character.

“We gambled when it was 2-2 and stuck three up front and it worked. We didn’t deserve to be 2-0 up and should have kept it but they hit back."
